Partial discharging (pd) within solid insulation materials, such
as XLPE, is damaging. When pd occurs there are transient earth voltages
and ultrasonic disturbances which may be measured using sensitive
equipment.
We have the expertise to inspect and advise on pd events
within power cable systems. The photograph on the left shows ultrasonic
detection and measuring equipment in use.
The trace on the left shows pd detected
by electromagnetic sensors. The yellow arrow indicates the peak
of a steep fronted partial discharge transient.
