Subsea Power Cable Systems
Major engineering effort is required to design a viable power transfer
system, both in terms of affordable cost and practical engineering
feasibility.
On very long links only DC systems are possible. On intermediate
links the choice of an AC or DC system is based on the cost and
efficiency of the cable terminal equipment.
The discrete nature of a subsea link gives freedom in design selection
of the transmission voltage and current and hence optimise the sizes
and weight of the cable and the size and cost of the terminal reactors
(AC system) or converters (DC system).
We provide full engineering support and budgetary costing services
for subsea systems. Our services include:
- vetting of suppliers
- engineering analysis
- functional specifications
- subsea cable designs
- enquiry preparation
- supervision and inspection
- continental connections
- island interconnectors
- offshore rig interconnectors
- wind farm applications
